Rotten Tomatoes, owned by Flixter, is an online publisher of movie reviews. Taking a fresh approach to movie analysis, Rotten Tomatoes provides a capsule summary of the writings of various film critics. Flixter is well known for providing comical commentary, as well as providing a blog and online community where viewer created content can be posted. The content is governed by its “Tomatometer” rating system, denoting the percentage of critics who recommend the particular movie.

Similar to the other entertainment sites I reviewed, Rotten Tomatoes utilizes top level navigation. Users can choose between Home, Movies, DVD, Celebrities, News, Critics, Trailers & Pictures, Community, or type a movie, celebrity or critic into the search bar. Below the navigation panel is a three column design that features the guts of the site’s contents.

Unlike the other entertainment sites I reviewed, Rotten Tomatoes’ design does not feature a large, dominating header image and complimentary white space. Instead the look is a bit more crowded and cluttered with content. The design lacks hierarchy of information, leaving me to want to go straight to the search bar to look for specific information, rather than browse around the site. However, the website is still easy to navigate and reaching the desired content can be effortlessly achieved.
