No Depression Analysis 3 May 2010

Posted by gjchatalas in Media.

No Depression began as a print publication in 1995, aimed at the emerging alt-country music scene. It subsequently has gong entirely online, but still aims to be the authority on the subject. And it may well be even more effective in this incarnation.

Anybody seeking the latest information about alt-country, Americana and roots music will frequent this site. There are articles and archives, of course, but also blogs, videos and photos. And NoDepression.com takes advantage of its niche by creating a community hub, filled with forums and reviews.

The appearance of the site embraces a down-home aesthetic, including wood paneling as a background. The toolbars feature drop-down menus that showcase the myriad features.

The objective of the site is to be the expert of this music genre. It sponsors and promotes shows and products. Advertising is present, but not overwhelming. For a site with so much information and offerings, it is remarkably user-friendly, inviting both dedicated fans and chance visitors.
